Now through the end of the first quarter in 2019, when our next Bootcamp graduates, we're asking the tech community to help us reach two aggressive goals: $50k, with which to pay for students to earn while they learn, and 30 commitments to hire them into temp-to-perm apprenticeships. We're not just HTML and CSS. By the time they graduate, our coders have built javascript games and applications from scratch, and have explored frameworks such as React. Watch Sebastian walk you through his project.
We work with our employers to design a "Path" for each student; continued technical and non-technical learning. Every week we'll follow up with a supervisor to ask how we can best support, amend, and reinforce The Path. And on Tuesdays or Thursdays, alum come back to continue that work. We have eliminated any risk, and have assumed the job of onboarding for you.
Before they leave our program, each coder will have actual, real-world, client-facing professional experience. They have all procured, serviced, and invoiced a freelance client. We argue in our Globe OpEd that for all the talk, too many Diversity and Inclusion efforts are continuing to fail. We have also written a Diversity Playbook, listing our observations regarding what seems to be working, and what's not working, in "diversity hiring" efforts in Boston. You can download it for free.
Each year we open one 8 week long internship program position on our Creative Technology team. Historically, this has been a very difficult position to fill as it requires a blended skillset of creative passion and development chops. In the spring of 2016, David helped us identify the perfect candidate in Pariss, she had both of those requirements and more.
The diverse skills Pariss brought from Resilient Coders allowed her make an immediate impact on our work. During her time with us, she supported a high profile project for the American Lung Association, collaborating with other Developers, Designers, Strategists and Quality Assurance specialist, always contributing to the conversation and adding value.
By the end of the program, Pariss helped us launch a project to production, learned the ins-and-outs of advertising and marketing, and picked up a bunch of new tech skills as well, including: Git, Gulp, and SCSS. Pariss is smart, a great listener, extremely fast learner and her passion for creative and development would make her an excellent member of any marketing or technology team.
Johan came to us with a firm understanding of front-end dev technology and how it fits together. He was able to learn a lot while working at Boston University -- not because of gaps in the education he received Resilient Coders, but because the education he received helped him understand which questions to ask when working on projects. This resulted in him being able to further expand and apply his knowledge on more complex websites. In the university’s case, his time was spent working on a wide range of projects that span from complex editorial sites to university-wide frameworks. It’s more than the technology taught, it’s the understanding on how to apply it and further the understanding that makes him, and Resilient Coders, successful.
